Gavin Hunt
Founder & Construction Director, MBH Developments
Gavin Hunt is the Founder and Construction Director of MBH Developments, a Kwakiutl First Nation–owned company committed to building housing that reflects Indigenous values, high-quality craftsmanship, and long-term community benefit. A highly skilled carpenter with over 15 years of experience, Gavin specializes in timber frame construction, specialty carpentry, and the delivery of complex residential and community projects across British Columbia.
Gavin has led and contributed to a wide range of meaningful construction projects throughout Vancouver Island, including on-reserve builds that serve Indigenous communities directly. His work includes the construction of the Wagulis School for the Kwakiutl Nation — a project close to his heart that provided a safe, beautiful, and culturally relevant space for children to learn and grow. His ability to combine construction excellence with cultural integrity makes him a trusted leader in Indigenous housing and infrastructure delivery.
His carpentry expertise is grounded in traditional post-and-beam techniques and precision joinery, with a deep focus on timber structures. Whether building custom homes, prefabricated units, or community facilities, Gavin ensures that every project is executed with care, strength, and respect for the natural materials being used. His attention to detail, site leadership, and ability to manage complex builds set the foundation for MBH’s reputation for quality.
As Construction Director, Gavin oversees site operations, construction scheduling, and quality control across all MBH projects. He plays a key role in bridging prefabrication and site construction, ensuring MBH’s housing systems are efficient, resilient, and tailored to the needs of the communities they serve. Gavin is also passionate about creating opportunities for Indigenous tradespeople, and he actively mentors apprentices and supports training pathways that build local capacity.
Gavin’s leadership is defined by integrity, craftsmanship, and a commitment to building homes that last — not just physically, but in the lives of the families and Nations they support.
